Today I want to share with you guys a whole bunch of my hair journey essentials, some that I discovered recently and some that I already knew.
Essential Oils
Some of my favourite oils I love to use in my hair are castor oil, I like to use Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil 8 Oz..
I`ve heard that the Jamaican black castor oil works better than the lighter color castor oil. What I do is empty out the Jamaican black castor oil bottle into a plastic applicator bottle, it makes it easier to apply into your scalp for hair treatments.
I use a color applicator bottle (used to color your hair) because it’s quite a manageable size to use. Soft ‘N Style Applicator Bottle with Angle Tip 8.5 oz. but you can get that at any supplies store.
I also use grapeseed oil that’s essential for my haircare, I love grapeseed oil, and actually the greener the better, so if you find Now Foods Grape Seed Oil, 16 Ounce it’s the best. You can mix these two oils together, or you can use them on their own. Oils are great for moisturizing your hair.
I also have used coconut oil, this is unrefined virgin coconut oil and coconut oil is actually solid at room temperature and then once you heat it like in your hands it becomes a liquid. I actually mainly use coconut oil at the end of the day when I`m braiding my hair to wrap it up to go to bed. I also use coconut oil for my moisturizing treatment I do at night, just before bed.
You can also use coconut oil as a scalp treatment to make your hair really moisturized.
I also wanted to mention that some of these products I actually found out from some other bloggers and YouTubers who do hair videos. I love them, and I’ve just researched their blogs/channels to find what I think is going to work for me and my hair. So all links to the products mentioned are down below, you guys probably know some of them already.
Another type of oil that I like to add to my Jamaican castor oil is a Peppermint 100% Pure Essential Oil – 30 ml. And the reason I like to add peppermint oil is because it helps you stimulate your scalp and it keeps the blood flowing.
Sheas Coconut & Hibiscus
Next I want to discuss some of my leave-in products that I like to use and two of these products are by Shea Moisture, I love this brand. My favorite is Sheas Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie with Silk Protein and Neem Oil for thick curly hair that you can use for anti frizz moisture and shine.
So I like to use this as a leave-in product and also when I’m doing my braids out at night to wrap up my hair. It really helps to hold the curl when you take out your braids in the morning for the waves.
Shea Moisture Hold & Shine Moisture Mist
I also like to use this coconut and hibiscus hold and shine moisture mist along with my can of Sheas Butter leave on Conditioning Repair Cream, I actually like to use these three in combination for the L.O.C moisture method.
The L.O.C Moisture Method
Now for daily moisture, what I like to do is use the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner. So for daily moisturizer I actually like to use a conditioner and I’ve tried this mixture before it’s great and works really well. So I mix the conditioner with some water so it doesn’t have that like sticky feeling and I also add some vegetable glycerine for added moisture. I use it every other day and I do my moisturizing method at night, so you don’t always need the daily moisture but if I do this works great.
Then at night time, I went to Amazon and I picked up this head scarf it’s a huge really long head scarf, it’s also very thick. It wraps perfectly around my head and it stretches so it’s really comfortable and you can wrap it around two times so that it doesn’t come off. So I love this scarf because it’s longer and it’s great and then sometimes I put a bonnet over it just to make sure it stays put and doesn’t fall off during the night.
Another essential for me are these disposable shower caps, what I love using this for is after doing my hot oil hair treatment. I like to put the shower cap over my head and apply some oindirect heat or sometimes all this time set for 2 hours on my hair without heat.
When I went to the local hair salon with my mom she picked up this hair dryer attachment so you attach your hair dryer at one end and it holds tight around the hair dryer and you sit it on your hair like a hood, but you can use it anywhere. You can sit in bed and plug it in. It kind of cuts down the time of your hair treatment so if you’re in a rush and you don’t have that much time to sit for 2 hours and let your oils sink in and do all of it, it’s automatic, so I love that.
Of course I use the basics too; I use simple clips that I’ve clipped along my mirror. Clips are also a super essential especially when doing my treatments to separate my hair while I distribute oils and creams and what not.
Shampoo and Conditioner
And then of course a shampoo and conditioner are going to be essential. I have decided to stop shampooing my hair once a week, I`m going to shampoo every other week but do co-washes in between. The shampoo and conditioner I`ve been using lately are by Marc Anthony True Professional Repairing Macadamia Oil sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. But if you can, try to find a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner because sulfates dry out your hair.
