Benefits of coconut oil for hair and skin

Benefits of coconut oil for hair and skin

Hi folks today I want to do a quick post for you guys about the amazing benefits of coconut oil. Just Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, 15 Ounce and the price varies (also check the reviews).  Mine comes in a jar, a lot of the time it just comes in a jar and you can buy it at your local health store.

I only paid $10.00 at my local health store which is incredible. It can help you save a lot of money as well because it basically substitutes a whole range of products for me such as; make-up remover, or my moisturizer, my body lotion, my hair mask as well. You can also use this in cooking, it`s incredible for you to cook with.  But I’m not going to get too much into that because we’ll just keep it beauty related.

Coconut oil is an important base ingredient for the manufacture of soap [source: wikipedia]. Soap made with coconut oil tends to be hard, although it retains more water than those made with other oils and therefore increases manufacturer yields. It is more soluble in hard water and salt water than other soaps allowing it to lather more easily. A basic coconut oil soap is clear when melted and a bright white when hardened.

So the number one thing I normally use it for is to remove my make-up, which is what I initially bought it for to be honest.

It normally comes in a jar and when it`s kept in a cooler temperature it forms into a solid shape so it does not leak or anything it is really solid.

What I do is I reach it with a spoon, grab a little bit onto my spoon and just put it on a cotton pad and then basically it really has a low melting point so if any warmth heats (even just your body warmth from your fingers), you can just spread it evenly and it melts really quickly.
So if you actually keep it in a warmer temperature for example beside your oven it`s going to liquefy and become a transparent liquid, it has a really strange texture like that. When it is liquid it`s a little more hard for me to use and it goes all over the place because it becomes very oily. I actually prefer to keep it in my fridge normally so that it forms into a hard solid mass.

What I normally do is put on the cotton pad and I just remove my make-up on a nightly basis and it moisturizes my eyes incredibly.

Now the second thing I want to discuss are the benefits of coconut oil when it comes to skin care. Actually, I don’t know if a lot of you folks know but coconut oil is high in antioxidants and they can prevent premature wrinkles on your face and because it is an all-natural oil I use it as a facial moisturizer on a nightly basis.

Now it can get pretty oily when you put it on and it does not absorb into your skin right away. So if you feel like your skin is a little too oily at night just feel free to wipe some off before going to bed if you don’t want to go bed with a really oily face.  This is going to keep your face really hydrated and when I wake up in the morning after putting on coconut oil as a moisturizer my face is always so smooth and it’s got that really rejuvenated texture to it. So using 100% pure coconut oil as a moisturizer is my second favorite thing.

It’s also great to use as an eye cream but I also want to mention that when you use it as a make-up remover it leaves that beautiful hydrated residue on your eyes and it kind of keeps them really oily and really moisturized and it`s incredible for your skin.

Another thing I want to mention is the benefit of coconut oil for your hair.  Now I use this as my number one and only hair mask. My friend actually told me about this a while ago because I’ve been using coconut oil as a makeup remover for the longest time but I had no idea you can use it on your hair.  Recently when I posted it on my facebook page about using coconut oil as make up remover, my friends were like “oh you can actually use it as a hair mask”.

I started this using as a hair mask and honestly I’m in love with it.  Now what it does for your hair is that it adds a lot of shine to your hair. I believe that it’s actually rich in protein as well so it can help with hair growth as well if you are having a hard time growing out your hair. I was actually reading online that men can actually use it if they have any balding, but obviously I don’t have any proof of that I was just reading online.

It helps to also repair your hair, so if you have any split ends, dandruff problems a coconut oil mask is a great way to actually help that. Basically what you do is you just take a chunk, rub it all over your scalp, and then rub it through your hair. Leave it there for about 15-20 minutes and let it sink in and then wash it off, afterwards you`ll notice immediate results.

If you can use it as a moisturizer then obviously you can use it as a body lotion as well. It provides incredible hydration and if you want to like add that like shine to your legs if wearing a mini skirt or something when going out, it does that beautifully.

Now if you’re going to buy it make sure that you get the organic kind, sometimes some companies sell it in the smaller jars and say this is great for your face and great for your hair. Its honestly the same thing as long as it`s Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, 15 Ounce, so don’t let the marketing get you all confused. You can just buy a big jar quite cheaply and it’s going to give you all the same benefits because it’s the same thing really.

Finally you can use it in your cooking as well it and I`ve been reading a little about it. The coconut oil actually increases your metabolism, boosts your immune system and can help your energy levels as well. So this is a great oil to cook with. But if you want to cook with it, I suggest a separate jar for your cooking so you won`t mix them up and you don’t use the same jar for both food and make up and your hair which would be pretty disgusting J

So yeah just get two separate jars if you want to.

So that’s my experience so far on using pure coconut oil. Feel free to get any brand that you prefer and I hope you get a lot of benefits out of it that I personally do as well and I hope that answers also a lot of your questions that you may have.
